The delays could impact people on their way to appointments at the Integrated Care Unit
Traffic delays are expected on one of Oldham’s busiest roads because of upgrades on the gas network. Rochdale Road in Oldham town centre will have temporary traffic lights controlling traffic for the next four weeks, with locals warned to ‘allow extra time for journeys’.
The upgrades are a part of an £80m project by gas company Cadent, who are upgrading older gas pipes across the country. More than 7.5km of pipes in the Oldham area are due to be upgraded this year.Mark Syers, a spokesperson for Cadent, said: “We have a responsibility to make sure every property that uses gas has access to a safe and reliable supply, 24/7, 365 days a year.
The temporary traffic measures required amendments this morning in order to allow buses to pass safely with traffic management to be kept ‘under review’. Some local GP practices have reportedly sent out texts warning patients to be aware of ‘busy traffic’ if they are attending appointments at the ICC. One frustrated resident took to social media to share the text, saying: “The roads in Oldham are that bad, even the local doctors are sending out warning texts.”
