A WA MP says he "stupidly" admitted sexually abusing a young girl in a suicide note to his wife because in his "scrambled" state of mind, he "genuinely thought" it would help his family after his death.The email was sent to police because of concerns about his welfareUpper House MP James Hayward was giving evidence at his District Court trial on three charges of getting the girl, who was aged between six and eight, to indecently touch him.

During this period he was in deep financial trouble because his company was in liquidation, and he owed the tax office $440,000, Mr Hayward said.
