Tim Farron has backed the campaigners who are fighting an increase to the State Pension age

The Women Against State Pension Inequality campaign group claims that almost four million women, mostly born in the 1950s, had their retirement plans thrown into disarray at the last minute when the DWP raised the State Pension age and campaigners have argued that the lack of notice robbed millions of women of the ability to adequately plan for their retirement.

On Wednesday WASPI campaigners travelled to Westminster as the government prepared to announce the details of the Spring Budget. They garnered support from politicians including Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron. "Pledging support for the campaign and for fair and fast compensation are Marco Longhi, Conservative, Dudley North, Bob Seely, Conservative, Isle of Wight, Julian Lewis Conservative, New Forest East and Tim Farron, Lib Dem Westmorland and Lonsdale. Thank you girls for representing us all on such a busy day in Parliament."

The 2011 Pension Act pushed the State Pension age further to 66 for both men and women. WASPI said: “Because of the way the increases were brought in, women born in the 1950s - on or after April 6, 1950 to April 5, 1960 - have been hit particularly hard.
