Police have launched an investigation - but are not treating the death as murder at this stage
Police have launched an investigation after a much-loved dad and grandad died following a late night attack at a social club.
Officers attended just before midnight and along with staff from the North West Ambulance Service, the 58-year-old was taken to hospital with serious injuries. A 60-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm and was later bailed with conditions as police enquiries continued.
Police will now await the findings of a Home Office post-mortem examination before deciding whether the death will be treated as murder. But detectives are continuing to investigate the attack and have launched a fresh appeal for information.
