The mum who worked in care completely overhauled her career
The selection of acrylic canvasses by Leanne Hughes from Wallasey is on show at New Brighton's Oakland Gallery from Friday 20 to Sunday 29 October.
Leanne attended St Mary’s Catholic College in Wallasey but like many artistic kids, traditional schooling wasn’t always the most appealing affair. She said: "I was a rebel. I used to cause trouble, which often ended with me being chased by my teachers and having to hide. Art, English and drama, anything creative, were the only subjects I really enjoyed.”
Leanne did start to train as a nurse, however when she gave birth to her second child, Owen, she decided to follow her passion. Leanne spotted a course at University of Chester and decided to apply. It was here she earned an art and design diploma along with a degree in fine art. Leanne has impressed many, from locals to international collectors, with some of her paintings valued in the thousands. The main aim of her art is to make people happy, and it does just that: “It feels great when someone comes to me and says that my art helped them through a tough time.”
