Frontrunner Robert Jenrick's campaign gets boost, as he is granted his first significant face-to-face with the media mogulConservative leadership frontrunner Robert Jenrick’s campaign has enjoyed a boost after he was invited to meet Rupert Murdoch when the media tycoon was in London to oversee a takeover deal,Jenrick, who currently has the most support among Conservative MPs, met the media tycoon on Thursday last week for around 45 minutes, according to industry sources.
Straight-talking Badenoch, 44, is understood to have met Murdoch on several occasions over the past few years and the pair are said to have a friendly relationship. Tory MPs have concluded the first round of knockout votes, leaving four contenders to make their case at the party’s annual conference at the end of the month. Although Jenrick topped the ballot of Conservative MPs, with 33 votes, Badenoch was a close second with 28.
Rupert Murdoch stood down as chairman of Fox Corporation and News Corp, giving way to his eldest son Lachlan The change would mean Lachlan would have sole control of the family’s stakes in publishing house Harper Collins alongsideand other assets. The younger siblings are pushing back against the proposed changes, insisting that all four continue to receive equal voting shares.Hearings start on Monday and are being conducted by high-profile lawyers representing different family members.
