The master and the apprentice will collide on Saturday when Murray faces off against his former player
Ian Murray has praised the job Airdrie player-boss Rhys McCabe has done at the Diamonds since his departure.
McCabe stepped up to replace him in June 2022, becoming the youngest gaffer in the SPFL in the process at 29, and managed to achieve what Murray couldn't by earning promotion to the Championship, which came via in a dramatic penalty shootout win in May's play-off final against Hamilton Accies. "I'm really chuffed for him as well because he went in with his own ideas and managed to get Airdrie back to the Championship in his first season.
"There will be bumps along the road, there's no doubt about that, but they have the benefit of having really good guys behind them upstairs at the club to help them out. "I will always look out for them and hope they do well, but my bread and butter is Raith Rovers and that's what I'm focused on." They go into the match still licking their wounds from a bruising 4-0 defeat at Gayfield last weekend.
