Deborah Fitzsimons, inspired by her late father Damien Fitzsimons, a local musician, is hosting a benefit concert 'If the Music Fitz' to raise funds for the Macmillan Unit in the Ulster Hospital. The event will feature 14 local bands and celebrate Damien's musical influence on Deborah's life and career.
A musician from Co Down is carrying on her dad's legacy with a special gig in his memory. Deborah Fitzsimons has been performing in venues across Northern Ireland and in Belfast since she was 17.
The event, entitled ‘If the Music Fitz,’ will take place at Denvir’s Coaching Inn in Downpatrick and showcase performances from 14 local bands, including musicians who played alongside Damien over the years. “I love the storytelling in their music,” she explained. “I try to engage with the creative process constantly. Anytime I’m out for a walk or doing something, lyrics just pop into my head and I have to note them down.”
