Oleksander Duvanskey has been searching for his missing son for one year For five months, Sasha Duvansky lived in a cramped basement with 30 other people. Every day had been a struggle for survival since Izium, a small town in the Kharkiv region of Ukraine where Sasha and his family lived, was captured by Russian forces in April 2022 just two months after the outbreak of war.

Ever since, Oleksandr and human rights lawyers have been investigating the circumstances of his son’s disappearance. Oleksander is certain he was captured by militia the Luhansk People’s Republic and believes he is still being held hostage. More than 400 bodies including children were discovered in the grave Sasha previously had a run-in with the militia. He was caught taking pictures of Russian checkpoints near Izium and was bundled in the back of one of their cars.
