A mum has taken to social media to share her frustration after people keep associating her daughter's name with a character from the popular vampire-themed Twilight book and film series
A mum has expressed her annoyance after naming her daughter in honour of her grandmother, only for people to associate the name with a Twilight character.
The original Twilight novel series, released annually from 2005 to 2008, focuses on Bella Swan, an insecure teenager who moves to Forks, Washington, USA, where she meets Edward Cullen, a 104 year old vampire. They fall "unconditionally and irrevocably in love" and face numerous challenges in their bid to stay together forever.
For one mum, the series' popularity has meant that her decision to name her daughter Esme, a classic name of French origin, sparks confusion or regular association with Twilight. Fellow Redditors quickly joined the conversation to offer their opinions. One user commented: "I absolutely love this name and also hate that it gets such a bad rap, particularly with those familiar with Twilight."
