N.J. town says it has exhausted all options, will kill troublesome geese

Peapack-Gladstone has been unable to chase the geese away using drones or bird repellent. A relocation plan also fell through.

About 60 geese who borough officials say area nuisance will be euthanized sometime in the next month.A town in Somerset County plans to have federal officials kill dozens of Canada geese within the next few weeks, with officials saying none of theBorough officials contend the geese have harassed park-goers and damaged both the park and nearby properties.

The geese will be euthanized during molting season — when they cant’t fly — sometime between the end of June and mid-July, according to the mayor. A recommendation to relocate the geese also failed. A biologist told officials that successfully relocating geese in New Jersey is extremely rare and because the state is small, the geese will return if they’re not pinned in or have their wings clipped.
