The first woman to go to the Moon shared one of the first tree that live up to 600 years.Following thorough numerous applications, NASA has chosen organizations nationwide to receive ‘Moon Tree’ seedlings. The seedlings flew around the Moon during NASA’s Artemis I mission in 2022.

Some of them include Loblolly pine. That is a fast-growing conifer native to the southeastern U.S. American sycamore known to live up to 600 years. Giant sequoia, known to reach ages of up to 3,400 years, are among the tallest-growing trees in the world. After returning to Earth, the tree seeds were nutrured by the USDA Forest Service. On the other side, NASA’s and the agency’s Office of Strategic Infrastructure’s Logistics Management division looked for their new homes.

“I used to dream about going to space by looking up through the pine trees. So, it was just a great symbol of our commitment to North Carolina. North Carolina’s commitment back to NASA. And all the amazing universities here that produce people for the aerospace industry,” said Koch toNASA selected institutions based on criteria assessing their capability to nurture diverse tree species.

“What an incredible journey these future Moon Trees have already been on. We’re excited for them to begin the final journey to permanent homes across the country,”Randy Moore. They hope that these trees will stand for centuries to come for the public’s enjoyment, inspiring future generations of scientists.Stuart Roosa over half a century ago when he carried tree seeds into lunar orbit. These seeds, known as the Apollo 14 Moon Trees, were nurtured into seedlings by the U.S.

The estimated value of a subset of forest ecosystem services was USD 7.5 trillion in 2018. Consequently, the NASA Moon Tree project may contribute to raising awareness of the broader significance of forests.China’s S1 robot impresses with its ‘human-like’ speed and precision
