How the national media reacted to Everton's 1-1 home draw with Brighton in the Premier League
The country's national media have been praising the change Sean Dyche has inspired since his appointment as Everton manager, with James Tarkowski singled out with a particularly high level of praise in Saturday's draw against Brighton.
And should Dyche be so inclined to pick up any of the papers today he would see an array of praise for the mentality he has instilled at Goodison Park since his arrival earlier in 2023 - even without victory to show for it. "Dyche has built a team of workaholics, Everton notably fitter and more resilient. At Goodison Park, these are the types of games Everton were struggling to land a punch not-so-long-ago, too often meek with and without the ball. Not at the moment. Tough on Everton, but they can take consolation from having restored an identity as distinguishable as Brighton’s, albeit a vastly different way of playing.
"The manner of the late concession here was cruel, but there were plenty of positives to which Sean Dyche, the Everton manager, can cling. For too long, Everton have veered between extremes, with last season’s results against De Zerbi’s side highlighting their infuriating inconsistency. "Brighton huffed and puffed but could not break down the royal blue wall of Everton’s defence until six minutes from time, when Kaoru Mitoma’s attempted cross deflected in off Ashley Young to cruelly deny Everton a sixth win in their last eight games.
