And less than a 10th of rubbish had to be sent to landfill, according to figures released by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency this week.
On average, each person in the region was responsible for 0.45 tonnes of waste, with 0.2 tonnes being recycled. SEPA spokesman David Harley said: “Scotland is ambitious for a more circular economy where fewer resources are disposed of and much more are re-used and recycled, creating a range of environmental, economic and societal benefits.
