The streaming firm made the confession as they filed a motion to have Fiona Harvey's lawsuit thrown out.
Netflix has admitted that Baby Reindeer's real life Martha, Fiona Harvey, does not have any stalking convictions and that it misled Parliament.
Benjamin King - who is the streaming platform's senior director of public policy in the UK - appeared before the Culture, Media and Sport Committee on May 8 to discuss the impact of Baby Reindeer. In a letter addressed to former chairwoman of the committee, Dame Caroline Dinenage, responding to the request, King clarified his language.
The fact that he claims the show was based on Fiona Harvey also appears to contradict a by Netflix in its defence motion to strike and dismiss Harvey's lawsuit that the show is not based on the 59-year old Scot. Quoted in the motion to strike and to dismiss, the show’s creator Richard Gadd argued that Baby Reindeer is fictionalised and that Martha is not based on anyone including Harvey.
“It is a fictionalised retelling of my emotional journey through several extremely traumatic real experiences.
