Pensioners are bracing themselves for a potential hit to their finances following warnings that fuel duty could increase by £175 from tomorrow. With the anticipated end of the fuel duty freeze, state pension recipients and older drivers might see their annual car expenditure rise substantially if they fill up their tanks weekly.
Concerns are being voiced across the board; Helen James, a part-time cleaner and mother of two from Kidderminster, expressed to the BBC: "My husband works two jobs, so that we can actually pay all of the bills. But even still, at the end of the month there isn't much left." Despite appreciating Labour's vow not to raise taxes on working folks, she broached her concerns about the possible hike in fuel duty. "We do need to have two cars... with my work, I've looked at it, and it would take me over an hour to get to some cleaning jobs, and by the time I was there, I was meant to be on to the next one," Helen remarked.
Speaking to GB News, Mr Kurtz warned: "While Halloween may fall on Thursday, October 31, the truly frightening event might arrive a day earlier, with Rachel Reeves set to deliver Labour's Budget on Wednesday. Increases in fuel duty, pay-per-mile taxes, and potential changes to Agricultural Property Relief will all strike at the very foundations that keep our economy running.
He added, "If APR changes go ahead, the farming protests witnessed in Wales earlier this year will seem small in comparison to the scale of protests that may follow."
