Apple is set to take leading password manager players such as 1Password and LastPass head-on by unveiling its own dedicated password app at the Worldwide Developers Conference, which starts June 10.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, known for his accurate leaks, reckons there will be a significant password-related surprise coming for iPhone users at the Apple WWDC next week. Apple will introduce “a new homegrown app next week called Passwords, aiming to make it easier for customers to log in to websites and software,”.
If the announcement of a Passwords app is not surprise enough, Gurman has suggested that the app will also work on the Vision Pro and, wait for it, Windows PCs. With support for passkeys, biometrics, secure password generation and the auto-completion of logins, Passwords is something that has been a long time coming and much welcomed by the security community as well as iPhone, iPad and Mac users.
