Letters are being sent out to older people and mixed aged couples about claiming Universal Credit or Pension Credit.
The Department for Work and Pensions has issued new guidance for eligible Tax Credit claimants over State Pension age due to receive an important letter in the post ahead of the legacy benefit ending at the end of the current financial year. The letter will let them know if they need to apply for Universal Credit or Pension Credit if they wish to continue receiving financial support.
Which benefit will pension-age Tax Credit claimants be asked to move to? Pension-age Tax Credit claimants will be asked to claim Universal Credit if they are: Pension-age Tax Credit claimants who are mixed-age couples will be asked to apply for Universal Credit if: Latest Benefits News Transitional protection People who are sent a Migration Notice or Closure Notice and would otherwise see a reduction in benefit entitlement following the closure of their Tax Credit award may be considered for an additional amount to make up the shortfall - this is called a transitional additional amount.
