More than 11.4 million payments were made last year including 36,000 to expats living abroad.
New figures published by the Department for Work and Pensions show that 11.4 million people of State Pension age received Winter Fuel Payments of up to £600 last year, an increase of 157,000 on 2021/22. The DWP said that 99.7 per cent of recipients lived in Great Britain, however, around 36,000 were living in the European Economic Area or Switzerland.
The new claim form for Winter Fuel Payments 2023/24 for people living outside the UK is now available online. Applications by post opened on September 18 with phone claims due to open on October 4. If you’re eligible, DWP will send you a letter in October or November saying how much you’ll get. If you do not get a letter from the DWP, or the money has not been paid into your account by January 26, 2024, contact the Winter Fuel Payment Centre - more details at GOV.UK here.
