Newcastle United are delaying their pursuit of Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin until the end of the season due to Everton's reluctance to sell mid-season and the Magpies' financial constraints.
Newcastle United are prepared to wait until the end of the season to sign Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin , according to senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke. The Magpies were keen on bringing the 27-year-old to St James' Park in the summer but failed to reach an agreement with the Toffees. They are now unwilling to meet Everton 's £15million asking price for a mid-season transfer, as the club are reluctant to lose their first-choice centre-forward during a crucial part of the season.
Calvert-Lewin is seen as the ideal replacement for Callum Wilson, whose contract expires in June and is not expected to be renewed by Newcastle due to concerns over his injury history. The club had previously attempted to sign Calvert-Lewin in the summer but were unable to create space in their squad. Everton, on the other hand, have been eager to tie the forward down to a new contract at Goodison Park, but he has rejected all offers so far. As a result, Calvert-Lewin is widely anticipated to leave for free at the end of the season, with foreign clubs also showing interest and potentially offering a pre-contract agreement. Newcastle, however, remain optimistic that they can convince Calvert-Lewin to delay signing with another club and instead join them at St James' Park. Despite scoring only two goals in 20 appearances this season, Calvert-Lewin is still a vital player for Everton's fight against relegation and the club will not allow him to depart for a bargain price this month
