Former teacher Iain Wares is due to be extradited from South Africa to Scotland to face justice.

TV star Nicky Campbell has told how "Scotland’s Jimmy Savile " Ian Wares is facing abuse claims by more than 100 alleged victims. Former school teacher Wares is set to be returned to Scotland to face justice from his native South Africa, where he also faces a charge of child abuse.

"It's been a very emotional period for so many of us since we started to dig back into the past, and it’s been a rollercoaster at times, with hopes rising and then falling again. The spell from 1968 to 1979 followed Wares' arrival in Scotland to seek treatment at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital from a South African psychiatrist, who had been a family friend in Cape Town, for his admitted attraction to young boys.

"Even with more than 100 complainers, I'd say it's still likely to be the tip of a vast iceberg because some people have probably closed down that part of their life and don't want to reopen it. "I thought about it and decided that it would. It's important to know that victims who were children and were vulnerable have been heard and believed, and it's important that the veneer of respectability he had as a teacher is shattered."

He said: "Wares repeated his behaviour over and over. And for every man who has come forward, there must be at least 10 who haven’t because Wares was indiscriminate in his violent outbursts and sexual assaults."
