The SNP’s new strategy is to try to win a majority of the Westminster seats in Scotland at the election and declare this as a mandate for opening independence negotiations with the UK Government. Asked by one reporter if she was the “Liz Truss of the SNP”, she retorted: “How long did it take you to think that up?” before adding: “Don’t be ridiculous.”
“I had taken it as far as I could. I think in those circumstances it was right that the party took the time to consider the way forward it wanted to adopt.Earlier in the day, Mr Yousaf was asked if he felt undermined by Ms Sturgeon’s presence at the conference.
