Spain wants to attract “thermal refugees” from Britain who want to spend this winter on the warmer shores of the Costas to escape the possibility of blackouts and soaring energy bills at home.
One the first “thermal refugees” to arrive in Spain from Britain was Lorraine Dobbs.
“It has not even hit the coldest time of the winter yet in Britain. Imagine what it is going to be like then when you must have the lights on and use the tumble dryer to dry clothes and other things?” Britons have said they will seek warmer weather in Spain this winter to try to avoid high energy prices at home
“It is a no-brainer to leave Britain to get away from the cold weather and the cost. And to enjoy lovely Spain and its people,” said Ms Barlow, 71, a retired administrator from Chesterfield in Derbyshire.
