Norovirus cases have surged by over 30 percent in just two weeks, with the increase most pronounced in adults aged 65 and over. The UK Health Security Agency reports that the total number of cases is almost double the yearly average.
Health chiefs in the UK have warned that cases of norovirus, known for causing violent bouts of diarrhoea and vomiting, have surged by over 30 percent in just two weeks. Reports of norovirus cases increased by 31.6 percent between November 4 and 17 compared to the previous two weeks, with the greatest rise seen in adults, particularly those aged 65 years and over.
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) noted that the total number of cases reported was almost double the amount typically seen during this time of year. The increase is attributed to the rise in norovirus genogroup 2 (GII), which has also been observed in other countries this year
