The motion, which was submitted by Progressive Change North Lanarkshire councillors was inspired by the recent Banksy exhibition at Glasgow Modern Art Gallery.

Members of North Lanarkshire Council have backed a motion noting the importance of street art and calling for more pieces to be created in its communities by school pupils and local artists.

“There is a terrific one of Billy Connolly and if you go to the West End you see some great murals to the 2014 Commonwealth Games.“What the motion is doing is try and lift some of the gloom around our communities and get young artists involved.”It states that the council will work with young people and community boards in order to create the designs.
