Casement is one of 10 stadiums set to host games for the tournament, which was awarded jointly to the football associations of England, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales

Antrim football captain Peter Healy believes Casement Park will still be built, but lamented the fact that it may not now be in time to host games at Euro 2028.

It is understood that Croke Park may step in to host games in the event that Casement isn’t completed in time with Windsor Park’s capacity of 18,000 falling well short of UEFA’s minimum requirement of 30,000-capacity stadiums for tournaments. “Casement will get built in some shape or form. You are losing such an opportunity. Without getting into the politics of it, why wouldn’t you want the European Championships in your home city?

“Maybe something will change, but it is hard to get too optimistic. "Ulster GAA are still going to need Casement to host big games and funding is still there so I’d be confident that it will be built.“I was looking forward to watching games at Euro 2028. From an Antrim point of view, we now need to get Antrim GAA a stadium again where Gaels in Belfast and Antrim really have a home. That’s what’s been missing over the last 10 or 12 years.

Any further delays mean the Antrim skipper might miss out on the chance of leading out his county in the new Casement Park.
