The state law says fireworks can be used the weekend before and after the Fourth of July, and on July 3rd and 5th.The city of Elyria created a window on the Fourth, from 8:00pm-11:00pm in which people can light of their fireworks. Yesterday, the Mayor of Elyria announced they will be dedicating two officers to exclusively check on fireworks complaints in the days leading up to the holiday through mid-July.Every city, including Elyria, are asking people not call 911 for complaints about fireworks because it ties up dispatchers for actual emergencies.The city is adding some teeth to the issue letting people know fines can range up to $1,000 and/or six months in jail.
