Scouting for Girls, Toploader and others were set to perform at a city venue - but those planning to see them will now be left disappointed
A Nottingham festival has been cancelled just weeks before acts were due to take to the stage due to low ticket sales. The Weekend Festival had promised to bring two days of music, entertainment, and family-friendly fun on September 21 and 22, but promoters announced the Victoria Embankment event had been scrapped on Friday, September 6.
Despite nostalgic names like Scouting for Girls and Toploader being booked to perform, organisers explained not enough tickets had been sold to make the festival financially viable. A spokesperson said: "It is with the heaviest of hearts that we must announce the cancellation of The Weekend Festival due to take place later this month on the Victoria Embankment in Nottingham."
Sales of tickets, which started at £8.32 per person, had been "stubbornly low" according to promoters. The representative added: "Across our industry, many smaller festivals have faced a similar fate this year in what have been challenging times for many. The costs of putting on a festival like this are considerable so we have had to make this difficult decision.
The Weekend Festival's promoters added: "We would only ever want to put on an event that would be the best for our great city of Nottingham. We thank all those involved in it, the directors, staff, artists and the wider community who have shown such enthusiasm for what we hoped would have been a brilliant weekend of music and entertainment later this month."
"We very much hope The Weekend Festival will return in 2025." Ticket purchasers should contact vendors to get refunds, they added.
