Latest Nottingham Forest news as Steve Cooper's Reds prepare for Premier League clash at the Etihad Stadium
It has been a positive start to the season for Steve Cooper’s side, although they had to settle for a point against Burnley on Monday night. But they know they are in for their toughest challenge so far when they go to the Etihad Stadium - where they were thumped 6-0 in the same fixture last term.
You don’t want to take away his freedom to express himself. He’s shown he’s got a whole bag of tricks in his locker, it’s just a case of judging what is required at certain times. Both of them were outstanding at Chelsea. I can understand why Cooper went with those two against Burnley. Willy Boly wasn’t available because of illness, and it would have been harsh to drop Worrall or McKenna after the way they played at Stamford Bridge.
He has had a shaky start to the season. But he was brilliant against Chelsea, so he has shown he can do it at this level. He knows that if you are not on it for the full 90 minutes in the Premier League, though, you can get punished.Cooper had a good chat with him before the game about what to expect. But it’s one thing hearing what the Premier League is like and another thing entirely experiencing it for yourself.
I suspect Cooper will stick with Sangare on Saturday. And if he does change formation, I’d pack the middle of the park, too. Being part of pre-season will have helped. He will have got to know his new teammates and how the manager wants to play. That has probably been a factor in his performances so far, when you compare to some of the players who came in later in the window. It shows the benefit of time.
