He was caught with cannabis

A thief was sentenced within days of being caught for stealing a mobile phone and bank cards which he used. Thomas Crampton, 33, was convicted of theft and four charges of fraud by false representation at Nottingham Magistrates Court on Monday and of possessing class B drugs.

According to Nottinghamshire Police, Crampton stole a mobile phone and bank cards belonging to his victim, before using them contactless to purchase items. Officers from Operation Compass, a city centre-based proactive policing team, located and arrested him in Nottingham on Saturday . He was found to be in possession of a quantity of class B drugs amounting to personal possession. Following interview at Nottingham Custody Suite by the Prisoner Handling Team, Crampton was charged and remanded over the Bank Holiday to appear at court, where he was dealt with.He was given an 18-week custodial sentence, which was suspended for 12 months, as well as being ordered to pay compensation to the victim.

The investigation into this matter was a joint team effort between a civilian investigator, officers from Operation Compass, and an officer from the Prisoner Handling Team, which resulted in a guilty outcome in court.
