Tens of thousands of people have downloaded it

A mobile gaming app, created by a mum from Radcliffe-on-Trent for her disabled son, has gone ‘viral’ with tens of thousands of downloads. Sixty-two-year-old Jane Braybrook has developed a simple mobile game, Stenciletto, based on a hundred year old IQ test.

Jane said: “You have a whole series of activities, they’re like mini IQ tests, covering all different areas. Not just one IQ but there’s 14 of them. You use them to work out what your child can do and can’t do - you learn their cognitive abilities and cognitive disabilities by doing these things. It was used to test the intelligence of children and adults up until the 1950’s. The app re-imagines Grace Arthur’s innovative IQ test as a simple, fun game.

“In the meantime all the tablets started to come out and phones became smartphones, after that happened we thought why don’t we do it for phones and for his tablets where he could just tap.” As part of developing the game, they were adding colours, changing the music and extras and they also added characters. They wanted to 'add a bit of Nottingham' to the game by adding Robin Hood and Maid Marian.
