Angel Akpovi, a 16-year-old college student from Nottinghamshire, has won the Miss Teen Nigeria UK title and wants to inspire young people. She emphasizes that beauty pageants are not just about physical appearance but also about embracing culture and showcasing intellectual abilities. Angel dedicated months of training and hard work to win the crown, participating in various rounds that required speeches, campaign ideas, and talent performances.
A Nottinghamshire teenager who won Miss Teen Nigeria UK has spoken out on the ‘misconception’ about beauty pageants. Angel Akpovi, 16, hopes to inspire young people after winning the title when competing against numerous young women from across England and Scotland.
“It was a lot more of being intellectual than about beauty. There’s a lot of time that goes into it, we had a cultural round and a talent round. You have a lot of time that you have to give up and sacrifice to make sure that you're showcasing the best of your abilities.” “I was really proud to see her blossom in front of the crowd. She really did show well. When she said she wanted to do pageants I did say I didn’t believe in pageantry. With this particular pageant, it was more about talent and how you can influence your own generation. I saw a lot of that, I saw a lot of that brought to the table.”
The teenager led a book drive in Aspley over the summer which donated 200 books to the Books2Africa UK charity. Angel’s hard work also earned her the accolade of the winner of the young writers' competition with her poem titled 'Cultural Navigation’, which she will be showcasing her work at the young writer's exhibition in November.
