Howling 60mph winds are widely forecast across northern parts of the country overnight and into Friday morning, with some areas possibly seeing 80 mph gusts.
The Met Office has named the twelfth storm of the season - with Storm Lilian set to batter Britain with 80mph winds and heavy rain.
Two yellow winds warnings covering northern Wales and northern England were already in place on Thursday morning. People have also been warned of potential travel disruptions, with the possibility of power cuts and dangerous conditions near coasts. 'Much of this is falling on saturated ground so increases the chance of some surface water flooding.' Meanwhile London and the south east is set for a ‘mini heatwave’ with temperatures set to hit 26C next week.

Hurricane Ernesto ripped through the North Atlantic last week, but has now weakened to a tropical storm after leaving hundreds of thousands of people in Puerto Rico and Bermuda without power. Lighter rain is also expected in Northern Ireland, while largely dry conditions will cover southern and central areas of England with spells of hazy sunshine, the Met Office said.In southern and eastern areas, Saturday will see rainfall which should clear by the afternoon, while fairly settled conditions will develop beyond Saturday.
