Nvidia and AMD are gaining share in the Supercomputers race
According to Wells Fargo analysts, the two chipmaking giants are expanding their presence in high-end supercomputing at a steady pace, a key indicator of competitive positioning in the semiconductor space.
Meanwhile, AMD's share gains continued on the June 2024 Top500 list, with 157 systems based on AMD EPYC CPUs, up from 140 in November 2023, 121 in June 2023, and 101 in November 2022. “16 systems are now utilizing Genoa up from 5 in the prior iteration while 74 use Milan vs. 66 in the prior and 58 in the year-ago period,” analysts noted.
NVIDIA GPUs are used in 172 systems, making up 52% of accelerator cores outside China.
