The gas and electricity supplier has promised to set up its own Winter Fuel Allowance for pensioners
Octopus Energy has pledged to distribute Winter Fuel Payments to state pensioners who will miss out on their £300 payments this winter.
With 'fewer UK households now eligible' for the government's assistance, Octopus Energy has decided to 'step up' and provide the funds themselves. The company will issue 'Winter Fuel Payments' ranging from £50 to £200 to state pensioners who have lost eligibility for the official government Winter Fuel Payments because of the recent changes.
Previously, the payment was made to all UK households with someone of state pension age. Starting this winter, only those also receiving Pension Credit or certain other benefits will receive the payment.
