The signs have appeared in the Rathcoole area of North Belfast and are calling for "immigrants" not to be housed in the area and that it should be for "locals only", and that "action" would be taken against anyone attempting to remove them.

“These posters have been designed purely to stoke fear and tension within the local community, the vast majority of whom I know will be as disgusted as I am by them. I understand there are issues in some areas relating to housing shortages but it is fundamentally wrong to focus that on any group of people, never mind threaten them.

"This is being treated as a hate incident and engagement is ongoing with community representatives in the area in relation to the matter."
