Olmsted Falls pole vaulter and Olympic gold medalist

CLEVELAND, Ohio — While Katie Moon has her eyes on defending her gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, she also made her pitch to join growing track and field ventures.

On Tuesday, Moon, an Olmsted Falls alumna, posted to X, formerly known as Twitter, a message to former Olympic sprinter Michael Johnson and Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, the husband of Serena Williams. Johnson and Ohanian are each forming pro track and field events to build off of the buzz from the Summer Olympics.

Ohanian, with the help of his venture capital firm Seven Seven Six, is launching a female-only track event in late September, which will have four events each year and already has commitments from United States sprinter Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and United Kingdon distance runner Josh Kerr.as she cleared 4.55 meters . She is one of 20 women who will participate in Wednesday’s finals, which will start at 12:15 p.m. Eastern.
