Trussell Trust figures show that women, disabled people, and carers are disproportionately at risk.
The study examined how many people were going without food, or cutting back, because of the rising cost of living.
The Trussell Trust Network has 51 food banks and distribution centres in Northern Ireland and more than 1,600 across the UK. "We are seeing more people using us for the first time ever and we are seeing people who are working," she said.
