Half of the councillors have complained to the state government about dysfunction under its mayor.
One of Sydney’s biggest councils is imploding, with half of Liverpool’s councillors losing confidence in Mayor Ned Mannoun and some approaching the state government seeking a public inquiry.
It alleged that at a budget meeting Ajaka said to Mannoun words to the effect of: “Shut the f--- up, you are always interrupting me, stop interrupting me, I’m not sacking anyone and I’m not going anywhere – you’re not firing me and I’m not going anywhere.” Half the council voted against the termination and lodged a rescission motion, but within four minutes of the meeting ending, Ajaka received an email informing him he’d been sacked. This was followed by a media release, which has since disappeared from the council’s website, announcing Ajaka’s dismissal.
“Their actions have undermined the principles of procedural fairness and shaken the very foundation of good governance at Liverpool City Council.”
