Perth and Kinross Council's full-time sites will soon close at 4pm and only open five days at week rather than seven

From October 1, centres at Friarton, Kinross, Inveralmond, Pitlochry, Crieff and Blairgowrie will close at 4pm - with last admittance at 3.45pm - and will only open five days instead of seven.

Milnathort resident Andrew Getley regularly uses his local centre to offload bags of litter he picks from the roadside. Perth and Kinross Council has said the reduced opening hours will save around £270,000 and avoids the closure of any recycling centres. At the March budget meeting councillors agreed to reduce the opening of full-time sites from seven days to five - saving £170,000 - and to reduce daily opening times by two hours per day - saving £100,000. This was made amidst a raft of cost-cutting decisions with the finer details not agreed.

Conservative Highland Perthshire councillor John Duff asked for an explanation as to "why there was a three-hour reduction in opening times as opposed to the two-hour agreed at budget".
