The historic fair opens on Friday, September 29
The rides are up and soon the aroma of mushy peas and doughnuts will be wafting across Goose Fair. The annual funfair is once again a 10-day event, to make up its absence during the pandemic.
"Last year's was very beneficial to everybody coming out of coronavirus and the first one for two years so we'll have to see how beneficial it is this year," said William Percival, the chairman of of Notts and Derbyshire's Showmen's Guild. Traditionally the fair used to start on the first Wednesday in October and ran for five days until the Sunday. However, this year's fair will start on Friday, September 29, from 4pm, and run until Sunday, October 8, at at Forest Recreation Ground.Here's a run down of the opening times for this year's event:Sunday 1st October: 1pm to 9pmWednesday 4th October: 4pm to 10.30pmSaturday 7th October: 12pm to 11.
Meanwhile, a Goose Fair veteran has spoken of the ‘serious repercussions’ tram strike action, proposed across the 10 days of the event, could have for stall holders.
