An alpaca owner who lost a long legal battle to save its life says she will ‘stand in the way of any gunman’ who tries to cull the animal.Animals found to be carrying the disease must be killed under the law as it is highly contagious and can devastate cattle herds if allowed to spread.to intervene and save the six-year-old alpaca.
Ms Macdonald, 50, must have the animal euthanised or the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs can attend her south Gloucestershire home and use a bolt gun to kill it in the next 30 days. Geronimo is being kept from other animals on Shepherds Close Farm, Wickwar, Gloucestershire but a court has ruled the animal must be killed She told Sky News on Friday: ‘This is about government behaviour and official behaviour. They’re trying to uphold the regime.‘If there was disease present we wouldn’t be having this conversation, he would’ve died years ago. But he’s fit and healthy.’
‘It’s a really upsetting situation. I don’t want Geronimo’s last moments to be of being caught by a man who will put a gun to his head before he’s shot, but then I don’t want to consent to having him euthanised.
