Padres pitching prospect Adam Mazur to fill in for Yu Darvish
The Padres will indeed pull from the farm system to fill in for Yu Darvish. As has been expected, the team will call up right-hander Adam Mazur from Triple-A El Paso to start Tuesday in Anaheim. The 23-year-old was drafted in the second round out of Iowa in 2022. He is ranked No. 5 in the organization by MLB.com and is the Padres’ third-ranked pitching prospect behind the younger and much greener Robby Snelling and Dylan Lesko. Mazur leads the Padres system with a 1.
Mazur, however, got on a roll at Double-A San Antonio to start the year, going 3-1 with a 1.95 ERA, 32 strikeouts and an 0.87 WHIP. For the season, Mazur is sporting a 50-to-9 strikeout-to-walk ratio. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Mazur was the Big Ten Pitcher of the Year when he was drafted. He boasts a fastball that pushes 97 mph, a tight slider that can touch 90 mph, a curveball with 12-to-6 action and a mid-80s change-up.
