Renfrewshire Council has refuted claims circulating on social media, particularly from YouTuber Craig Houston, that Montrose care home in Foxbar will be used to house asylum seekers. The council stated the property, slated for sale, will be targeted towards private elderly care providers.
Renfrewshire Council has dismissed claims on social media that a Paisley care home would be used to house asylum seekers .
He said residents had contacted him with concerns—but failed to outline or identify what they were—as part of the “10 Minute Moans” feature on his Craig Talks to YouTube channel. In his “exclusive report", he said: "They fear they may be the next place—in what you can see is a very residential area—to be inundated with potentially 100 asylum seekers, single men of fighting age.
Mr Houston also vows to “find out the truth” but has failed to contact the owner of the building or the UK Home Office to ascertain the future use of the building. Instead he suggested that rubbish by the wheelie bins and other activity meant work was being done on site. A spokesperson for Renfrewshire Council said: “There is no current plan for the future use of the former care home. The building will soon be put on the market for sale and marketing will include targeting to care home providers. Any decision to sell will be considered by councillors in due course.”

NHS to Prioritize Home Care for Elderly to Reduce Hospital AdmissionsHealth and social care bosses will be directed to focus on keeping the elderly living independently at home to prevent unnecessary hospital or care home admissions. £9bn of government funding will be allocated towards three key metrics: reducing hospital admissions for people aged 65 and over, minimizing discharge delays for adult patients in acute hospitals, and decreasing admissions to long-term care homes for the elderly population. The funds will be used to support community-based care initiatives, such as Urgent Community Response teams and home-based care services, which are more cost-effective than hospital or care home stays and enable elderly individuals to maintain independence.
