PASIG City Mayor Victor Ma. Regis 'Vico' Sotto has resigned from Aksyon Demokratiko party, he and the party announced on Wednesday.Sotto ran under the Aksyon Demokratiko banner when he won his first mayoralty term in 2019, and when he was reelected in 2022.In a statement, Ernesto Ramel Jr., the party chairman, said that Aksyon Demokratiko was 'saddened' by Sotto's resignation.
In his letter addressed to Ramel, Sotto said that the party was headed toward a 'different direction' because of 'recent events' and believes that 'we are no longer a group of individuals with similar political goals and ideals'.'To me, this defeats the purpose of being a member of a political party,' said Sotto, son of actors Vic Sotto and Coney Reyes.Sotto said he delayed his resignation until the end of the national elections in May.
