The Avanti West Coast service from Euston to Glasgow Central departed London at 1.30pm on Monday, September 9, but was left without power at Abington, around 5.30pm, due to a fault.

Passengers travelling to Glasgow were left "stuck" on a train for five hours after the service broke down near Lockerbie.

The line towards Glasgow Central was subsequently blocked. An Avanti West Coast spokesperson said: “At approximately 5:30pm yesterday , we were made aware of a fault on the 13:30 Euston to Glasgow service leaving it without power at Abington between Lockerbie and Motherwell.“Passengers were evacuated onto a replacement train just after 9.30pm to take them to safely to their destination. We apologise to any customers for their experience yesterday and would encourage anyone caught up in the disruption to claim for compensation.
