Luke Ayling's current contract at Elland Road is set to expire at the end of the season and Paul Robinson would like to see Leeds United offer the defender a new deal
Paul Robinson feels it would be 'fantastic' to see Luke Ayling earn a new contract with Leeds United. The club held an option to extend the long-serving defender's current deal, but the 32-year-old is currently set to become a free agent and depart Elland Road at the end of the season.
Ayling has spent eight years with the Whites so far, and like the club during this period has experienced highs and lows during this stint. The right-back has featured in all but one of the Championship fixtures under Daniel Farke so far, although he had to settle for a late cameo in the most recent home victory over Bristol City.
There has been no speculaton at this stage as to whether Leeds will look to offer Ayling a new deal, with a swift return to the Premier League the obvious priority. Robinson believes the defender's experience could prove crucial beyond the current season, but also suggested the player himself could be open to a new experience elsewhere. He told MOT Leeds News: "It would be fantastic to see Ayling rewarded with a new contract for his service to the club.
"To have that long-term would be good. If the club reward him with a new contract it would be fantastic. But for him on a personal level is if he wants pastures new at this stage in his career. Is there something else that he wants to pursue?”
