The charming village of Castleton has been used as a filming location for a number of popular TV shows and films and it's not hard to see why - it's a walker's paradise
The Peak District, known for its stunning landscapes, is home to the beautiful village of Castleton, which is surrounded by lush rolling hills and features unique attractions like caves and even a castle. Nestled at the base of the imposing Mam Tor, Castleton showcases charming stone cottages and is celebrated for its significant caves within the Hope Valley, serving as the heart of the Peak District.
Beyond the allure of fame and silver screen glamour, Castleton is a treasure trove of opportunities for remarkable outings. Whether you're drawn to exploring neighbouring dales or facing the daunting climbs of Winnats Pass, Castleton's reputation as a hub for walkers is well-deserved, reports Derbyshire Live. For stunning views over the Peaks, adventurers often head to Peveril Castle ruins, one of the prime locations near the village for panoramic vistas across the district.
A delightful path from the village, tracing the river, leads up to the cave. Until 1915, Peak Cavern was home to Britain's last cave dwellers. Treak Cliff Caverns is celebrated not only for its extensive and unique veins of the semi-precious mineral Blue John Stone but also for some of the UK's most breathtaking cave formations. Visitors can get an up-close view of the remarkable veins of Blue John Stone, which continues to be mined and sold in Castleton today.
