3 hours agoThere is one epithet that Juliette Lewis has had to acclimatise herself to overthe years. ‘I heard the word “dangerous” so many times,’ she sighs. ‘I used to hate it.’ By 2019, she’s learned to take the compliments where she finds them. ‘Now I love it, with hindsight.’
‘When they offered me a cover-try for my first Vogue,’ she says now, ‘I was not interested.’ It was the early-Nineties.‘ I couldn’t understand why other people were.’ She saw the prettification of her talent as an insult to its work. ‘You don’t get [Robert] DeNiro doing that,’ she noted. ‘So why should I?’ She has kept her approach to some of those initial concerns honest and earnest.
