Volunteer lifeboat crew quickly responded to reports of someone struggling in the water at the herring pond in Portstewart.
A person was rescued off the north coast after getting into difficulty on Friday afternoon. Portrush Inshore lifeboat was requested to launch by the Coastguard to reports of a person struggling in the water at the herring pond in Portstewart . The volunteer crew were paged at 3.42pm and launched at 3.53pm. The crew arrived on scene at 3.59pm. Conditions were good, cloudy but good visibility and a slight sea swell. On arrival on scene the casualty was quickly located and taken onboard the ILB.
The casualty was then transported back to Portstewart Harbour and handed into the care of the Ambulance Service and the coastguard. Beni McAllister Lifeboat Operations Manager said: 'This was a classic rescue for the volunteer crew, something they train for on a regular basis. 'Sea and weather conditions were good, which allowed us to be on scene very quickly and recover the casualty.' The ILB ‘The Ken Blair’ and her volunteer crew arrived back on station at 4.30 pm ready for the next shout
